Soft Attention

One night I was struggling to sleep.

Doomscrolling was not helping, so I thought I’d try meditating instead. I opened a meditation app and started scrolling through sessions. I even downloaded a few more apps to try something new. It all began to feel like being in a library, when all I really wanted was a little guidance to calm my mind and fall asleep.

I remembered reading about how much AI voice models had improved, and I wondered if it could help here. So I tried a small experiment. I got out of bed, generated a voice I found calming, and used ChatGPT to write a meditation for that moment. It worked for me that night.

I did have some hesitation about using AI for something like this. Meditation feels personal. AI can feel impersonal. But meditation is not really about the tool. It is about whether something helps me settle, turn inward, and be with myself. In this case, AI happened to help me get there.

That made me wonder if this might be useful for other people too. I’m exploring that idea further with Soft Attention. I’m testing an early version with a few friends. The idea is to build something that learns your preferences, understands your context, and helps you meditate in the moment with a new meditation each time.

Let me know if you’d like to try it.

I’ll only email you when the app is ready for you to test. No newsletters or marketing emails.
